Washington Park Community Compost Hub Pilot

WashingtonPark.Community.CompostHub

The Public Works Department is piloting a Free Compost Hub at Washington Community Park (865 E. Grand Ave). This location is in addition to the existing compost hub at Lopez Urban Farm (1034 W. Mission Blvd).

Why Compost?

Compost enriches soil, improves water retention, and supports healthier gardens—all while reducing landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions. The compost provided is SB 1383-compliant and free to our residents, while supplies last!

Location:

Washington Community Park at 865 E. Grand Ave. Go to West Parking Lot by baseball field at S. Towne Ave and E. Grand Ave. There is signage off of Towne Ave and at the site by a large tree.

What to Bring:

  • Your own container or bag
  • A shovel for self-serve use

Fill your container with compost and use it in your garden to build healthy, climate-resilient soil and promote plant growth!

Please note: City staff will not be onsite to distribute the compost. Staff will continue to monitor demand over the next month. If successful, the site will be replenished regularly and may become a permanent hub.
