Services provided include: retrieval of information for patrons; assistance and instruction in the use of the online public access catalog and other electronic resources; assistance in locating specific information; and introducing patrons to specific reference tools and their use.
Reference staff also assist the public in the use of the Library's Genealogy Collection, which contains over 3,000 books, microfiche, microfilm, and periodicals.
Children's Services
The Youth Services Program introduces children to the functions, activities, and purposes of the Public Library. It promotes the use of the library (both educational and recreational) through public contact, brochures, booklist, monthly calendars, displays, and programs for children.
The Youth Services staff selects children's books and materials, as well as fiction for young adults. Staff develops and presents programs such as Preschool and Toddler story times, programs for visiting classes, outreach to Pomona schools, special holiday programs, seasonal reading programs, tours, film programs, and library instruction. Staff coordinates the use of volunteers for children's programs.

Group Visits to the Library
The Pomona Public Library welcomes group visits to the library with advanced notice, pending availability. Visits last 30-45 minutes and may include storytelling, book talks, library use instruction, assistance with research projects and a tour of the library. If there is a specific area of interest or a topic that you would like your program to include, please provide any relevant information and we will do our best to customize for your group. Please also include details such as the name of your group, the expected number of attendees and whether you will need to create library cards or sign up for any services. To schedule a visit please contact us or email library@pomonaca.gov.
Librarian Visits to the Classroom
A Children's Librarian will visit your Pomona classroom once a year and present a 30-minute program, as work schedules permit.
Borrowing Books
Library cards are free to Pomona residents and teachers in the Pomona Unified School District with current CTA card or letter from the principal on school letterhead. Children under age 14 must have their library card application signed by a parent. Library card applications may be picked up from the Circulation Desk or copied off the Pomona Public Library website. Teachers may bring in their students completed library card applications. Please allow a week for your class's applications to be processed.
All library card-holders may borrow up to 30 items at one time. Most materials may be checked out for three weeks and renewed for an additional loan period by phone (620-2043 ext. 2720) or on the Library website, provided they are not long overdue or reserved by another person.
Teachers are encouraged to call to discuss future classroom assignments. Please assign flexible topics so that we have enough materials for your students. The Children's Librarians will gather together books on a requested subject. Please allow two days before the time you want to pick them up.
Please do not assign a specific website, unless you have verified that it is available on the Children's Room Internet Computers.
